few more updates to the website

Well, I got a little bit more work done on the site tonight, basically got the tagging, taxonomy, and the tag cloud working the way I wanted it to.

Over the weekend, I'm thinking I'm gonna open up the website registration form to all vistors again (ahh, here comes the flood). I'm just hoping everyone will read the print -- website access DOES NOT GIVE YOU SSH ACCESS.

Of course, this is common sense to most, but just thought i'd give all the users in the IRC channel a heads up about it.

Howto get a free shell

This is a short howto what to do to get a free shell.
See this as general, some tips from who have a little experience in this scene.

1. Read always the website and if there is a forum, also check the forum carefully.
2. If the free shell hoster have an irc-channel, join that channel.
3. Most important, be patient. It costs time to get a free shell. How better the shell, how longer it can before you get an account.

What is Linux?

what is linux?

When you say "Linux" most people think of a distribution, but in truth "Linux" actually just refers to the kernel. The kernel of course is the main component of a system that sits between the hardware/bios and the shell. When you're typing into your putty window (or at a direct terminal) the shell you're using is normally 'bash' (but this can vary, sh, csh, ksh, and many more are available) the shell is actually your interface to send commands to the kernel.

More changes

Well, like i said, there is a lot of work to be done on the new website, but so far, it all looks good.

I did get a new signup page up, hopefully this will let all the new vistors know exactly what they need to do to participate and join the community here.

Welcome!

Welcome everyone to the new site.. I still have a LOT of things to do.. but, as some of you may be noticing right about now, WOW a new domain name?

Yep, as for the last few years, we've been trying to empasize more community sharing, helping, etc.. and a little less shells, i thought this change in 'branding' was neccessary.
